For more than forty years Episcopal Homes Foundation has been a non-profit leader in providing housing and services to seniors. Guided by its commitment to the principle that elders deserve “security and the full life” to the end of their days, EHF sponsors and manages, in addition to its Continuing Life Care Communities, the Presidio Gate Apartments in San Francisco and Oak Center Tower in Oakland, totaling 250 units of Senior Housing for low and very low income elderly and disabled people. A new facility is presently underway and will add 50 additional low and very low income units to the Foundation’s portfolio.

In addition to operating excellent communities for low income seniors, the Foundation seeks to link itself and its residents with the community by service and participation. It sponsors and supports:

  • Senior Resources, a program that offers case management and telephone reassurance to Seniors in Alameda County. In collaboration with EHF, Senior Resources has initiated the Senior Center Without Walls, a program that gives frail elderly and Shut-ins the opportunity to interact by conference call. Seniors play bingo, reminisce, tell jokes and do Yoga - all on the phone.
  • Weekly produce and food cooperatives in West Oakland, East Palo Alto, Sebastopol, Carmel, San Francisco and Freemont providing low income seniors with access to fresh food at affordable prices. In East Palo Alto, the Friendly Shopper Program permits seniors who are not able to come to the market to phone in and have their fruits and vegetables delivered to their home.

Working with InnVision, a San Jose based not for profit provider of housing and services, EHF helped to create and supports a Senior Resource Center and respite area for homeless and at-risk seniors in the San Jose area.
